Wisconsin rolls out new anti drunk driving campaign

There is no question that drunk driving is a completely preventable activity that can lead to serious consequences for all involved. In addition to intoxicated drivers putting themselves in a position where they could face criminal charges, they also place themselves, and others on the road, in a situation that could result in serious injuries. In the worst cases even death can occur.

The Wisconsin man responsible for this deadly DUI accident was recently sentenced.

Drunk driver who killed Wisconsin man sentenced to prison

It’s hard to image losing a spouse of more than 60 years due to the actions of a drunk driver. Sadly this very thing occurred in late 2012. An 80-year-old man was killed in Wisconsin when a vehicle driven by a 58-year-old man struck the vehicle he and his wife were driving in. The younger man, who in addition to having marijuana in his system also had a blood alcohol content of 0.28, ran a stop sign with the vehicle.

Back on June 21, 2013, we reported on the tragic death of a dentist who was riding his bicycle on Highway G in the early morning hours of June 1, 2013 ("Wisconsin driver abandons car after bicycle accident, rider dies"). The woman arrested in this DUI accident claimed she thought she struck a deer. She contacted a friend who came to give her a ride home, leaving both her car and the victim behind.

Alleged alcohol-related accident causes serious injury to driver

Most everyone in Wisconsin knows that drinking alcohol diminishes a person's ability to make rational decisions. People that would agree that drinking and driving is dangerous may still make the wrong choice after drinking and still get behind the wheel of a car. When that happens, the probability of being involved in an alcohol-related accident increases dramatically, as does the possibility of someone being seriously injured or killed.

Alcohol believed to have been a factor in SXSW fatal car accident

Motor vehicle accidents that are the result of drunk driving occur in communities throughout the nation, including Western Wisconsin, on an all too regular basis. Recently, one such incident taking place at the popular South by Southwest Festival, located in another state, left multiple people injured and three dead. The incident marred what most consider a fun music and film festival.

Most Wisconsin residents already know about the inherent dangers of drinking and driving. No shortage of media stories warning drivers of the possibility that an alcohol-related accident could lead to serious injury or death. An Eau Claire man might have learned this lesson a bit too late.
