Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents Archives

Wisconsin crash statistics and facts for 2013

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation put out a crash report in 2015 that provides statistics and analysis for 2013, the most recent year for which all of the data has been collected. Looking at this information can help paint a picture of the traffic accident conditions in the state. A few key pieces of information include the following:

What should I know about distracted driving?

Anyone who is driving a motor vehicle must give his or her entire attention to that huge responsibility. Any distractions that occur while driving can lead to an accident. In fact, more than 1,153 people are injured in distracted driving crashes in the country each day. More than nine people are killed daily in these accidents.

Arrest made after man driving buggy is killed

A man was heading home in a horse-drawn buggy, and he only had about 400 yards to go before he reached his house. He never made it, however, as his buggy was struck by a vehicle and he was killed. An arrest has now been made in the case.

How safe are children on Halloween?

Halloween can be a lot of fun for children, but it can also be dangerous. It means that many children are out on the sidewalks and streets, where they are at risk of being hurt or even killed in car accidents. This is part of the reason that 75 percent of parents say they have fears about their children's safety on Halloween night.

Truck crash claims the life of 66-year-old man

According to authorities from Lomira, Wisconsin, a 66-year-old man recently died in a fatal truck collision that involved two semi-trucks, including one that was equipped with a tanker trailer filled with water. The incident happened at approximately 2:00 a.m., on Interstate 41 last week.

Cyclist hit and killed during training ride

Every year, the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa draw participants for the long trip. Some of them come all the way from other states to participate. One woman from Wisconsin was planning on riding in the event, but she was hit by a car while she was out training in McMillan.

Major factors in fatal accidents

Have you ever wondered what transportation factors cause most fatal accidents in Wisconsin? In order to find out, the information from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has been broken down and analyzed, and five different factors were found to contribute frequently. FARS is run by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA).

Toyota must pay $11M in personal injury lawsuit

We often mention that lawsuits could be a possibility following a  car accident. These lawsuits are filed against parties whose negligence is deemed to have played a role in the accident. Sometimes lawsuits are filed against drivers of other cars involved in the incident. Other times however they are filed against automobile makers for defects found in the vehicles. A case involving a fatal crash allegedly due to a vehicle defect was recently resolved in a neighboring state. While the crash did not occur in Wisconsin, the outcome of the case could have a bearing on others throughout the nation.

Winter weather chain-reaction crash results in death of 2

In previous posts we have mentioned how winter weather could make it more likely that a motor vehicle accident could occur. Cold temperatures can make roadways slippery and heavy or blowing snow can make it difficult for drivers to see the road and other vehicles around them. Earlier this week winter weather appears to have played a role in a multi vehicle accident that occurred on a highway in another state.
