Cyclist hit and killed during training ride

Every year, the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa draw participants for the long trip. Some of them come all the way from other states to participate. One woman from Wisconsin was planning on riding in the event, but she was hit by a car while she was out training in McMillan.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, and the woman was then taken to Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital. However, she passed away while she was at the hospital.

The wreck happened right around six in the evening. Reports show that the woman was on a paved road when she was hit. As of right now, the authorities have not charged the driver, but they are looking into the situation and carrying out their investigation.

It is not clear how the accident happened. More details--such as which side of the road the cyclist was on, which way the car was traveling, and whether or not either one of them was trying to turn at the time of the crash--should come out as the police work through their investigation.

The ride that the woman was going to be part of starts in Sioux City, Iowa. It will begin on Sunday.

When someone is killed in an accident, family members may still have to cover significant costs. These could include the cost of emergency treatment, transportation to the hospital, and the like. On top of that, there will be burial costs, funeral costs, and the potential for lost wages. Family members need to know what to do if they would like to collect compensation for these things.
