U.S. Highway 51 became the site of a deadly crash involving two vehicles on Nov. 8. The truck vs. car accident ended up taking the life of a passenger in the car. The driver of the car was injured, and the driver of the 18-wheeler was unharmed.
The semi-truck was heading northbound through Wisconsin on the highway. As he approached County Highway DM, the southbound vehicle was making a left hand turn right in front of it. The Mack truck collided with the vehicle. The passenger died because of injuries suffered in the crash.
The vehicle driver’s injuries were described as non-life threatening. Nevertheless, he was taken to an area hospital via helicopter. The driver’s current condition is not known. The Wisconsin State Patrol is handling the investigation of this accident. There is not yet any word on whether any charges will be filed.
Drivers making turns directly in the path of another vehicle cause many accidents each year. Whether it is because the driver is distracted or believes he or she can “beat” the other vehicle, it is dangerous. As illustrated by this crash, people often die or be seriously injured.
The family of the deceased passenger in this truck vs. car accident knows this all too well. Even though they retain the right to seek financial restitution from the party or parties deemed responsible for the crash, it won’t change the fact that a member of their family is never coming home again. Nevertheless, there are damages the family has sustained that may be recovered through a successfully litigated claim.
