Pedestrian accident in Illinois means charges for Wisconsin man

Readers of our blog are probably some of the few who know just how quickly a life can be taken away because of someone else’s negligence. This is especially true in pedestrian accidents because these victims do not have the protection of another vehicle to prevent serious injuries or death.

This was exemplified by a case out of nearby Illinois where two pedestrians found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time this month. According to police reports, a 26-year-old Wisconsin man was behind the wheel of a car when the vehicle suddenly jumped the curb and collided with the two victims. Both were taken to a local hospital where one unfortunately lost their life. The other is expected to survive.

When questioned by police, the 26-year-old driver admitted to using heroin before getting behind the wheel of the car and did not remember anything about the accident. Much like drunk driving, the presence of the drugs in the man’s system impaired his ability to drive and therefore made him negligent behind the wheel. It’s because of this fact that the surviving victim and the other victim’s family may decide to take legal action against the man for injury and wrongful death.

While many of our readers might be relieved to know that the man is currently being held on a $500,000 bond, this still does not take away the fact that a person’s life was lost because of this man’s reckless behavior. In similar cases, victims and their families have been left with a sense of injustice until the time that they are able to seek compensation. And in this situation, this might just be the case too.
