Police have hinted to the fact that a driver they believe to be responsible for the death of another driver may have been trying to get to work at the time of the crash. Other people on Wisconsin Highway 23 reportedly contacted the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department to report a woman driving in and out of traffic passing vehicles. The driver was said to be headed west at the time of the car accident.
As the driver was passing cars, a vehicle traveling east had to veer off the road in order to avoid a collision. As that eastbound vehicle attempted to come back onto the road, it ended up in oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle. The driver in the car that was headed east was ejected during the crash and died at the scene as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured, but his injuries were not life threatening.
The woman who was driving erratically through traffic has been arrested and charged with homicide due to the fact that she was allegedly operating her vehicle in a negligent manner. The Wisconsin State Patrol is the law enforcement entity that responded to the accident. Even so, anyone who has any information regarding the accident has been asked to contact the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges filed against this woman demonstrate that authorities do not accept being late to work as justification to drive erratically and put the lives of others in danger. The family of the driver killed in this car accident may also file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver, apart from the criminal proceedings. Successfully navigating a civil claim may give the family a chance to gain some justice on behalf of their loved one.
