Two fatal Wisconsin accidents occur within days of each other

Residents in and around Jefferson County are probably thinking that their roads are a little bit more dangerous this week after two separate car accidents in the area claimed the lives of two people within days of each other. While these crashes are both reminders of how even one mistake behind the wheel can change a life forever.

The first accident occurred in the town of Hebron, between Madison and Milwaukee. According to police, a 54-year-old Wisconsin man failed to negotiate a curve which caused him to cross into oncoming traffic. He was then hit head on by a semi truck driven by a Milwaukee man.

The second fatal accident took place just north of Milton, killing a 37-year-old woman and injuring three other people. police believe that a truck, driven by a 21-year-old Janesville man, was travelling south on Highway 26 when he crossed over the centerline, slamming head-on into a Kia, which was being driven by the 37-year-old woman.

Both victims in the accidents were pronounced dead at the scene and those who were injured in the second accident were taken to local hospitals to be treated and expected to recover.

While investigators from the Jefferson County Crash Investigation Team don't appear to know what caused the first driver to lose control of their vehicle in the first crash, investigators from the Rock County Sheriff's Office believe that fatigue may have been a factor in the second crash. Because both crashes are still under investigation, it does not appear at this time that any criminal charges have been filed against the driver's responsible for the crashes nor does it appear as if any civil claims have been filed at this time either.
