Speed and alcohol factors in deaths of two Wisconsin residents

| Jul 22, 2013 | Drunk Driving Accidents

Residents in the community of Wisconsin Rapids are still grieving after an accident claimed the lives of two of its residents just two days ago. Although the accident is still under investigation, police currently believe that alcohol was likely a contributing factor in the crash.

According to police, the alcohol-related truck accident occurred around 2 am on Saturday, July 20 on a secluded gravel road near the border between Portage County and Wood County.  Accident reconstructionists believe that the 22-year-old driver of the truck was driving too quickly over a short hill when he lost control of the vehicle.  The truck then crashed into the trees lining the road, coming to a stop on the passenger side.

When emergency crews arrived, they discovered that two of the passengers, both 21-year-old women from Wisconsin Rapids, had perished in the crash while another passenger, a 21-year-old man from Rudolph, had suffered serious injuries. He was airlifted to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital and is considered to be in serious condition at this time.

The 22-year-old driver of the truck has been arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and could face additional criminal charges at the close of the investigation. Although just an assumption at this time, the family members of the two deceased women may want to take legal action against the driver for his involvement in their deaths. If this does happen, the man could face further litigation in connection with the case.

It’s always difficult for readers of our blog to hear stories such as this because they know how preventable they are. Even though a majority of people know how dangerous drinking and driving can be, people still chose to take this risk, often times at the expense of other people’s lives. The hope for the survivors is that they are able to seek justice in a case such as this.
