Wrongful death case possible in Wisconsin boat accident

Now that the weather has gotten warmer, a lot of people in Wisconsin are enjoying being on the water. While the goal of being out on a boat is to relax and enjoy the water, boaters must also remember that they are piloting a vehicle and accidents do occur. If boaters aren't careful, they could end up facing criminal charges and wrongful death actions if someone dies in a boating accident.

This may be the case with a recent accident that occurred on June 5. Three men were out on a boat enjoying a trip down St. Croix River when tragedy struck. For reasons not yet known, when the boat was just north of Kinnickinnic State Park beach, which is on the Wisconsin side of the river, it slammed into the rock face. Of the three people on the boat, one was killed and two were injured.

The two people that were injured were taken to a local hospital by ambulance to be treated for unspecified injuries. The current condition of these two men is not known. The third man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The owner of the boat was one of the injured men, but who was driving the boat at the time of the crash was not released.

The investigation into the crash will reveal whether factors such as alcohol, drugs or speed were the primary cause of the accident. Authorities have not yet indicated whether any charges will be filed in connection with the accident. The family of the deceased man has the right to file a wrongful death claim in connection with the accident, and the injured man may file a personal injury claim as well. No amount of money will erase the events of that day, but it may help in the recovery of the financial impact that inevitably follows in the wake of accidents.
