Racing turns deadly for two Wisconsin motorcycle riders

Driving on the roadways in Wisconsin can turn deadly at any moment, but this statement is more so true for motorcycle riders who do not have the same protection that other motorists have. While helmets and riding gear may offer you some protection, in most serious accidents, steel beats bone every time.

Such was the case for two Milwaukee motorcyclists earlier this month who discovered just how deadly operating these machines can be. And while police continue to piece together the events that led up to the fatal motorcycle accident, surviving family members are forced to grieve the loss of the two men who may have taken their excitement for spring a little too far.

Just before midnight, witnesses tell police that there were three motorcyclists weaving in an out of traffic in the southbound lanes of traffic along N. 60th Street. Adding to the recklessness of their behavior, witnesses also describe the three riders as traveling close to 90 mph just prior to the crash.

While moving through traffic, police say that two of the motorcyclists hit a car being driven by a 21-year-old woman. The first rider, a 40-year-old Milwaukee man, is said to have received serious injuries during the motorcycle accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second rider, a 40-year-old man also from Milwaukee, was ejected from his bike, which immediately caught on fire. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where he late died from his life-threatening injuries.

The third rider, witnesses say, avoided the accident and fled the scene before emergency crews could be dispatched. Though the deaths of the two Wisconsin men are being labeled as accidents at this time, it is not clear whether police would press charges against the third rider or not if the person were to come forward.
