Icy roads may have caused car accident in Wisconsin

Winter weather has been known to wreak havoc on Wisconsin roads. Icy conditions can make the roads slick and hazardous. Police believe it is icy roads that contributed to a car accident that killed the passenger in one of three vehicles involved.

The accident began when a car side-swiped a pickup truck heading in the opposite direction. That initial contact caused the car to spin out of control and wind up directly in front of another pickup truck also heading in the opposite direction of the car. The second pickup truck was unable to avoid hitting the passenger side of the car.

The woman sitting in the passenger's seat of the car died as a result of the impact. The extent and nature of the driver of the car's injuries is not known; however, she was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Her current condition is unknown. The occupants of both pickup trucks were not injured thanks to air bags and the fact that they were properly restrained at the time of the accident.

Whether any charges will be filed in this car accident remains to be seen when police conclude their investigation which will include an accident reconstruction by the Wisconsin State Police. In the meantime, the family of the deceased woman will be prematurely burying her. The family of the deceased passenger retains the right to file a wrongful death claim to recover the costs and damages incurred as a result of their loved one's death. They may recover those expenses if the party or parties thought to be responsible are found to be negligent and that party or parties' actions caused or contributed to the passenger's death.
