Three-car crash near Milwaukee leaves two injured

| Jan 22, 2013 | Commercial Vehicle Accidents

A serious car accident in Caledonia-just south of Milwaukee-this month has two people in the hospital and has left police with a series of unanswered questions.

The accident occurred just before 8:30 in the morning when a 20-year-old woman was driving her car along Five Mile Road. Without warning, the front of her vehicle collided with a trailer that was parked on the side of the road causing her vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic. A head-on collision with an electrician’s van then caused her car to flip onto its roof, the vehicle skidding across the pavement.

Emergency crews immediately responded to the scene of the car accident, quickly realizing that the 20-year-old woman would need to be carefully taken from the vehicle. After extricating her from the flipped vehicle, she was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital where she is listed in serious condition.

The 57-year-old driver of the van-who may consider himself lucky to be alive-was still taken to the hospital where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

For investigators, now comes the difficult process of piecing the accident together. Although evidence appears to be pointing to negligent driving, officers have not ruled out road conditions or how the weather that day may have affected the woman’s ability to safely maneuver her vehicle on the highway. There is also the unanswered question of the trailer; was it completely in the shoulder or was it partially obstructing the road at the time of the accident?

Police will need to consider all of these questions and more will, especially so the victims involved in the accident can have the information necessary to move onto the next step in the healing process.
