Wisconsin authorities are withholding the names of two people involved in an accident while they notify their families. The car accident left one person dead and another seriously injured. Two vehicles were involved in the accident that took place in Fond du Lac County.

A vehicle traveling westbound on Sheldon Road in Brandon ran a stop sign. At that exact moment, a vehicle was traveling northbound on Brandon Road. The vehicles collided causing both vehicles to overturn. The westbound vehicle caught fire, and there were reports that someone had become pinned under the vehicles.

The driver of the westbound vehicle that ran the stop sign was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. She was flown to Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, having suffered severe injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is being investigated by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department. It is not known what charges, if any, will be filed as a result of the accident. It is also unknown whether the family of the deceased victim will exercise their right to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the other vehicle.

No amount of monetary compensation can replace or ease the loss of a loved one. However, recovering those out-of-pocket expenses incurred in connection with a fatal car accident such as funeral expenses can help the family withstand the financial impact of the accident. The family may also be awarded other damages allowable under Wisconsin law, if they are able to establish liability by proof of negligence, it may give the family some sense of justice in seeking to hold a responsible party fully accountable for their actions.
