Distracted driving may take many forms

Distracted driving has become a major problem on roads throughout the nation including those in the state of Wisconsin. The busier we all get the more multitasking people undertake. While this behavior may not be a big deal in some settings, when the person engaging in it is behind the wheel of a car, the outcome can be disastrous.

Distracted driving may take make forms including engaging in the following while driving:

  • Eating or drinking.
  • Grooming.
  • Reading a map.
  • Reaching for an object.
  • Using a handheld device such as a cell phone.

While it is true that any of the behaviors mentioned above could lead to a car accident occurring, the issue we seem to hear most about involves the use of a cell phone while behind the wheel. Reasons for this could include the prevalence of smart phones and all of the things you can do with them over and above using them to talk to someone, such as texting.

Individuals involved in a crash caused by distracted driving may find that they are injured. While in some cases the injuries might be minor, it is possible that they can be quite serious and require medical care for an extended period of time. As readers are likely well aware, that can be expensive. This is particularly true when the injury leaves the victim unable to work and missing out on wages.

One way to deal with the aftermath of a car accident is to sue the party responsible for it. While there is no question that monetary compensation will not undo the harm that was inflicted, it could ease the recovery period. For more information please see our page on distracted driving.
