A serious crash took place recently on Wisconsin Highway 44. Fortunately, the only occupants of the two vehicles involved in this serious car accident were the drivers. Both men ended up being transported to area hospitals.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation still does not have all the answers regarding the accident. So far, all that is known is that an eastbound vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and directly into the path of the other vehicle involved. The westbound driver was unable to avoid the head-on collision.
The 35-year-old driver of the eastbound car suffered injuries deemed to be life-threatening by emergency medical personnel. As a result, the decision was made to airlift him from the scene. At last report, his injuries were still considered to be threatening his life. The other driver, a 61-year-old man, suffered injuries as well, but they were not considered life-threatening. However, his injuries still necessitated medical treatment, so he was transported to a hospital.
Authorities do not yet know what caused the eastbound vehicle to end up in the opposing lanes of traffic. An accident reconstruction team with the Wisconsin State Patrol was called to the scene in order to further the investigation. No information is yet available regarding whether any charges will be filed.
Even though the older driver did not suffer life-threatening injuries, his injuries could still be serious. He is still incurring a significant amount of medical bills and may still be employed, in which case he may also be losing income as he recovers. Therefore, he retains the right to file a personal injury claim against the other driver. If negligence is proved to the satisfaction of the court, the victim could receive an award of damages. Any financial restitution could defray the financial losses sustained in this car accident.
