Woman struck by car while crossing street in crosswalk

Most pedestrians throughout the nation rely upon crosswalks and signal lights to let them know when to cross a street. While these signals provide some guidelines regarding what actions should be taken and when, they may also provide pedestrians with a false sense of security regarding their safety. Though many motorists do adhere to the rules of the road where pedestrians are concerned, for a variety of reasons, others do not.

A woman in one Wisconsin city learned this firsthand. She was struck by a car as she crossed a street in a crosswalk. Though other vehicles stopped to let her cross, one vehicle driven by a 74-year-old man, did not. The incident occurred one night around 9 p.m.

Fortunately the woman’s injuries, including a broken arm, are described as non- life-threatening. She was nonetheless taken to an area hospital for treatment following the incident.

Though the reason why the driver hit the woman is not known, as the collision happened at night, it is possible that the darkness may have made it difficult for the man to see the woman.

It is unclear whether the woman suffered any injuries other than the broken arm. Depending on whether she suffered any other injuries and what kind of recovery she experienced, it is possible that she could file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver. Often a portion of the compensation recovered in these types of lawsuits is put toward any medical expenses that accrued as a result of the negligent actions of another person.
