1 dead, 5 injured in Wisconsin single car accident

It was around 2:45 a.m. on the morning of St. Patrick's Day. A vehicle occupied by six people was traveling on Interstate 90/39. As the vehicle left the Interstate to enter Wisconsin Highway 14, the driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons not yet known. One person in the vehicle died, and the five other occupants suffered injuries in the single car accident.

The 36-year-old woman that died was a passenger in the vehicle, which failed to negotiate the curve of the exit ramp after the driver lost control. The 31-year-old driver suffered injuries that were described as non-life threatening. He was taken to a trauma center in the area.

Another of the passengers, a 33-year-old woman bearing the same last name as the deceased passenger, was taken to a different hospital in the area for treatment of her injuries. Fortunately, she escaped life-threatening injuries. The other three passengers were taken to the hospital as a precaution, even though they reportedly suffered no injuries.

The area was closed while Wisconsin State Patrol officers conducted the on-scene investigation, and the roadway was cleared. Officials have not yet said whether any criminal charges will be filed in connection with the accident. Even if no charges are filed, the family of the deceased passenger and the injured passenger may exercise their rights under our state laws to file civil actions in connection with the car accident. Any financial restitution received from a successfully presented legal claim could assist the family (and/or the injured passenger) with the payment of costs and expenses invariably sustained under these circumstances.
