Deadly Wisconsin auto accident still under investigation

The Wisconsin State Patrol and local authorities continue to investigate a collision involving an 18-wheeler and an SUV. Four people suffered injuries and another died in the truck vs. auto accident. The current conditions of the injured parties were not reported.

Initial reports indicate the SUV was traveling north on U.S. Highway 53 at the same time the truck was traveling east on County Highway Y. As both vehicles approached the intersection, the truck failed to yield the right-of-way to the SUV, which was already in the intersection. The truck rammed the SUV sending it sliding off the road where it flipped over.

Four people occupied the SUV. Only one remained inside the vehicle when it came to a stop; and, the other three were thrown out of the SUV during the crash. One of the occupants that was ejected died at the scene. Another person suffered critical injuries and was airlifted from the scene. At last report, he was in critical condition at an area hospital.

The two other SUV occupants' injuries have been described as non-life threatening, but were not specified. Even the driver of the truck was injured. His injuries were also said to be non-life threatening. There current conditions are not known.

The driver of the truck could face criminal charges in connection with this auto accident. The injured parties and the family of the deceased passenger may also file civil litigation under Wisconsin law. Such litigation may be filed against both the driver and his employer. If an accident occurs during the performance of a worker's job, his or her employer could be held liable for the driver's actions under the legal concept of vicarious liability.
