Wisconsin car accident kills passenger, both drivers injured

Despite the amount of information available regarding the dangers of drinking and driving, many in Wisconsin continue to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. No one believes that he or she could cause a deadly car accident after drinking. Unfortunately, many drunk drivers do cause accidents that not only kill, but leave themselves and others injured as well.

Police in Wisconsin believe that alcohol and speed may be factors in a recent head-on collision that occurred on Highway 29 in Brown County. A vehicle occupied by a driver and passenger was heading west on the highway on Nov. 17. The driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, careened over the median and slammed head-on into another vehicle.

The passenger in the westbound vehicle suffered fatal injuries during the crash, and authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of that same vehicle suffered unspecified injuries that are considered serious. Emergency personnel transported him to an area hospital for treatment of those injuries. The driver of the eastbound vehicle is said to have suffered only minor injuries.

If it turns out that the westbound driver was impaired and speeding at the time of the accident, he could face criminal charges in connection with this car accident. If prosecutors secure a conviction on charges stemming from the accident, the family of the deceased passenger may use that conviction as evidence of the driver's negligent or reckless conduct. Successfully litigating such a claim could result in the family receiving financial restitution for the monetary damages such as funeral and burial costs and pain and suffering that accompany such a tragic loss.
