Man dies from injuries sustained in Wisconsin auto accident

The Wisconsin State Patrol and local authorities are still trying to figure out what caused a pickup truck that had a large trailer attached to it to crash. All three of the occupants in the vehicle at the time of the auto accident had to be taken to an area hospital for treatment. Since that time, one of the vehicle's passengers has passed away.

The preliminary investigation shows that the pickup truck was heading north on US 53 when, for some as yet unknown reason, it crossed over all of the lanes on that side of the highway. It then entered the median and rolled several times. During the crash, the now deceased occupant was thrown from the vehicle into the southbound lanes of traffic.

That passenger's injuries were considered life-threatening and were the cause of his death. The driver and the other passenger from the vehicle sustained unidentified injuries and their current conditions are not known. So far, the Wisconsin State Patrol has ruled out speed and alcohol as causal factors.

Just because those two factors have been ruled out, that doesn't mean that other factors such as inattention or cell phone use may have caused the accident. The vehicle may have to be examined in order to rule out the possibility of some sort of mechanical error with either the pickup truck or the trailer it was hauling. Once authorities determine how the accident occurred, a determination can be made whether to file charges against the driver.

In the meantime, the family of the now deceased passenger has the right under our state laws to file a wrongful death claim against the driver. The victim's family won't be able to get him back by filing a civil action. However, it may give them some financial relief from the expenses incurred since the auto accident.
