Pedestrian injured in Madison after being struck by traffic

Pedestrian accidents in Wisconsin can be some of the most frightening for both the injured victim and even the driver who hit them. As we’ve mentioned in past posts, these types of accident generally result in catastrophic injuries because pedestrians are not protected by the enclosure of another vehicle when they are struck. Everything from cuts and bruises to serious internal injuries can occur, leaving the victim in serious condition and the driver of the car wondering what consequences they could be facing.

This might just be the scenario playing out for those involved in a recent pedestrian accident in Madison. According to police, the accident occurred at the corner of East Washington Avenue and South Patterson Street at around 11 p.m. Police say that the pedestrian--whose name has not been released to the public at this time--had just entered the intersection when they were struck by oncoming traffic.

Although reports indicate that the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, as many of our readers know from past accidents, the victim could have suffered serious internal injuries that might have gone unnoticed until after visiting the hospital. The impact of a car striking a person can cause head traumas, internal bleeding and damage to a person’s organs. That hope is that the victim in this accident will survive this devastating occurrence.

According to Wisconsin police, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident and have not issued any citations at this time. It’s important to remember however that because this accident is likely still under investigation, the driver responsible for hitting this pedestrian could still face charges. The victim and their family may also want to seek compensation for injuries in the future. All of which will need to be seen in the days and weeks to come.
