No parent in Wisconsin-or anywhere for that matter-wants to receive the horrifying news that their child has been killed in a car accident. This is especially true when that child has been killed by a drunk driver months before their first birthday.
But this is exactly the case for one Irving, New York family who is still mourning the loss of a 7-month-old after a drunk driver claimed her life just a few days ago.
November 27 had started like any other day. The 31-year-old mother of two had just dropped her 4-year-old daughter off at school and was on her way home with her 7-month-old daughter strapped in a car seat in the back of their Pontiac Grand Am. But in a matter of moments, everything was about to change.
A 24-year-old driver in an SUV, who police believe to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident, allegedly lost control of the vehicle, crossing over the center line before colliding with the front end of the Grand Am. The force of the impact was so great that when emergency vehicles arrived on the scene, the Pontiac had literally been split in half.
The 31-year-old woman was immediately taken by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital having suffered serious injuries. Unfortunately, her 7-month-old daughter did not survive this fatal alcohol-related accident.
At present time, the 24-year-old woman, who had been driving the SUV, has been arrested and charged with a DWI and second-degree vehicular manslaughter. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
