Alcohol may be a factor in deadly Wisconsin car accident

Most Wisconsin drivers know that they shouldn't drink and drive. However, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of drivers each year that get behind the wheel of a car after they have been drinking without regard for the fact that by doing so, they are putting everyone on the road at risk. The odds of a driver being involved in a car accident increase dramatically if that driver is drunk.

One Wisconsin driver heading southbound on Highway 45 in Fond Du Lac County is believed by authorities to have been drinking when he crossed the center line of the highway and plowed head on into a northbound sedan. The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to a West Bend hospital. The occupants of the sedan were not as lucky.

The driver and a passenger were both killed in the crash, and a 13-year-old girl was seriously injured. The young girl was taken to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Her updated medical condition was not reported.

In the aftermath of this horrific car accident, the surviving family of each victim is forced to deal with the premature losses, and a young girl is left to fight to recover from her injuries. While any surviving family members are likely struggling to make sense out of the seemingly senseless tragedy, authorities may move forward with charges against the driver of the northbound vehicle. If a criminal conviction is ultimately obtained, proof of it may be offered as evidence in wrongful death or personal injury claims for monetary damages. These types of civil proceedings require proof of negligence against a responsible party as a basis upon which monetary relief may be granted. Nothing can undo what has already been done, but successful civil claims may add an additional measure of justice while providing reimbursement for damages sustained.
